Sapporo TV Tower offers stunning panoramic views of the city from its observation deck, making it a must-visit landmark in the heart of Sapporo.
MK Guide Recommends
Sapporo TV Tower rises at the eastern edge of Odori Park as the city’s most recognizable vertical landmark, a constant presence in a place defined by horizontal space. Completed in 1957 during Sapporo’s postwar expansion, the tower has witnessed the city’s transformation, its steel frame anchoring the skyline as the modern era took shape around it.
Designed by Tachū Naitō, known as the father of Japanese tower design, the structure rises 147.2 meters with quiet authority. Midway up, an observation deck offers clear views across Odori Park’s full length and out into the ordered grid of the city beyond. From this vantage point, Sapporo reveals its logic, its symmetry, and its northern character.
The tower was also among the first in Japan to feature a digital clock, whose illuminated face has become a familiar point of reference and a longtime meeting place for locals. Decades later, it remains exactly that, steady, visible, and deeply woven into the city’s daily rhythm.
