Iconic historical castle that provides insights into Japan's history, surrounded by stunning gardens and sweeping views.

MK Guide Recommends

Osaka Castle is Osaka’s pride and joy, so don’t you dare utter a negative word about it to a local. This symbol of the city dates back to the 16th century, to the era of the “second great unifier of Japan,” Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and stands tall and majestic over Osaka Castle Park, a lovely place to spend the day and one of my favorite parks in all of Japan, in a city that lacks significant green spaces.

Despite its opulent exterior, the interior feels more like a municipal office (ducking my head from locals), but the view from the top is pretty grand. Right outside, to the left if you’re facing the front, is a bench on top of some rocks, a great place to unwind and watch the sunset with some friends over drinks.
