A cozy standing bar located in Kyoto's Higashiyama Ward, serving handcrafted pizzas in a hidden alleyway.

MK Guide Recommends

It’s okay to admit you need a break from sashimi, ramen, and rice during your travels through Japan. Kitchen Bisshon has you covered. Hidden away in a retro-style alley, it seats (stands) six at best.

This standing-only spot serves drinks and cheese pies, perfect for refueling on carbs after a long day of walking, if you can tolerate standing. It’s a one-person operation run by an owner who exudes friendliness and handles everything, a jack of all trades, if you will (well, I guess a pizzeria would be one trade, I suppose).

Not for those who lack patience. This local feeling joint offers a front row seat to the pizza making. Given the tight quarters, conversation with strangers is a must. It’s not a place to be a wallflower. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself coming back for a quick bite before leaving town. Open until midnight or until the dough runs dry.
